How AI Can Save Educators 10+ Hours Every
Week
By Dr. Sylva Ngu-Wara
My 15+ years as a teacher
have required many hours spent on lesson planning, researching content,
structuring grade lines, and designing classroom activities. In other words,
educators often spend a large portion of their time on repetitive tasks such as
lesson planning, grading, creating presentations, and preparing learning
materials. With the rise of AI tools, many of these activities can now be
automated or completed in a small amount of time, freeing teachers to focus on
what matters most: teaching and mentoring students. It felt like magic when I
spent less time building a presentation with AI tools, and it turned out
original. Educators who still hesitate would be trapped in a cycle of wasted
energy. Why not embrace AI and spend most of your time enriching yourself for a
brand?
Here's how AI can help educators reclaim
valuable time each week:
🔹
Lesson Planning (2–3 hours saved)
Tools like ChatGPT can quickly generate structured
lesson plans, learning objectives, and classroom activities. Teachers just need
to "master the prompt”.
🔹 Presentation
Creation (1–2 hours saved)
Platforms such as Canva and Gamma automatically design
professional lecture slides. Most teachers still spend most of their time on
cycled PowerPoint presentations, which consume most of their relevant business
time.
🔹 Content
& Notes Preparation (1–2 hours saved)
Using Notion AI, educators can generate summaries,
study guides, and course notes in minutes. Though articles and books remain
primary to original course material, AI will provide SMART tips to guide you
around your search and filter tasks. I tried, and it worked out.
🔹 Quiz
& Assessment Creation (1–2 hours saved)
Tools like Quizizz and Kahoot! instantly create
interactive quizzes and classroom games. This seems to be a whole unagreed-upon
aspect of modern online learning, as teachers remain tied to old ways of
testing understanding or acquisition. But I can testify that these AI
interactive assessment tools aid teachers in tracking learning progress more
than ever before: SMART progress tracking.
🔹 Video
Lectures (2 hours saved)
AI video tools such as Synthesia and HeyGen convert
scripts into professional teaching videos without complex editing. A Chinese
proverb says, “An image is worth more than a thousand words.” Research has
shown that videos and images capture the attention of people across age groups.
Thus, teachers are encouraged to use videos to capture learners’ attention in a
classroom setting. It is often said, “Learners’ attention is more precious to
the teacher than anything else.”
Total potential time saved: 10+ hours per week.
AI isn't replacing educators: it’s empowering them to
teach smarter, innovate faster, and spend more time on student engagement. An
educator can only be replaced if they refuse to align with AI.
